The baby has anemia

Today Audrey's ped called to say that she's anemic - she had blood work done this week. So she goes on prescribed iron supplement. And if she doesn't improve in a month then we need to test her for further issues. Most kids however have this scary blood thing, they get their iron and all goes well. However, I did question the dr if this could be related to the eye thing since i was now finding her funny eyes in all of our red eye shots and not just in the one photo that i took. The peds response followed along these lines: first we need the doctor to check her on Monday (the opthalmologist). He will determine if she does in fact have a problem with getting a red reflex in her eye. It could just be that our ped couldn't get a red flash b/c of her own interpretation but the eye doc will say a okay. If he doesn't find a red eye reflex (the eye showing red when he flashes a red light into the retina), then he will have to see if there is something growing in it. If there is, it can pretty much either be a cataract or a tumor. Basically, if the doc on Monday thinks there is something in her eye, he will be calling for a full blood scan to start checking her white blood cells. IE - leukemia or other cancer. How does this relate to the anemia - well if her red cell count is low and doesn't improve with prescription iron, then that will also lead us down the path of checking white blood cells - ie, for leukemia or cancer. SO pray for the best case scenario. That our pediatrician just couldn't get a good red flash in her eye and the doc just needed better equipment to see it and that all parts look good and clear. And that the anemia thing is just the common kids issue of having low iron and will improve with prescription. And that they are TWO separate issues and not related.

Anything else and we will address it on Monday....

Are you new to blogging?

Well since I spoke to my grandma, II realized that some of you might not be totally hip to this "blogging" thing. Note - You have to keep checking the site! I write new things and post new pictures of the girls all the time. Not every day, but as time permits. Plus its just a lot easier than having to email them along to a huge group of people....so check out the site as I add to it over the next few weeks (nighttime and teething permitting).

Hugs and Kisses to all. Just call me Momma - everyone else in my household does.

Anxiously waiting

It seems that there may be something going on with Audrey's eyes. Since I noticed the first pic with the red eye/white eye phenom and since the doctor examined them, I have seen this white eye thing in almost all of the pictures that Ive taken of her lately. Sometimes its the whole eye thats white and sometimes its just a small portion at the bottom. So for the time being, I'm going to stop taking pictures. Otherwise, I'll just drive myself nuts. She sees an opthalmologist next Monday. Hopefully this will answer some of our questions. Of course over the weekend, I cornered one of my daughter's friends parents who is a ped and asked her about it. She said it could be as simple as her eyes not being aligned to possibly having a cataract to it being the tumor/cancer thing. Meanwhile, today she had to get some blood drawn since her iron levels are low and the doctor wanted to test for anemia and lead issues? What's a lead test and why? And as for her hearing/speech not being up to par for a 12month old (see previous post) - well she spends all day having to hear her big sister and her momma. She's probably waiting fot the time she can get a word in!!
Be sure, I will keep everyone posted on what becomes if anything of any of this...

Oh, and this photo is of the girls and their new dinner table.... and yeah, I did cover Z up for security purposes...

Here's Looking at You!

She's pretty cute.

To say good night on a good note.

Here is a picture of the cutest 12month old in the whole wide world.....look at that smile!!!!

And here is the Princess Zoey Belle doing exactly her most favorite thing in the whole wide world....baking, decorating and eating cookies.

Not having a good week

It hasn't been a good week. My closing has been postponed which in means that I wont be getting paid. Yesterday, Audrey had her one year checkup. The other night I was taking pictures of her at dinner and I got one like this. It freaks me out to see this picture b/c someone passed along this info to me about getting a mismatched red eye in your children's eyes. It was a website of this woman's son who died of retinoblastoma (tumor in the retina). So I brought it up to the pediatrician at her appt. Sure enough, the Dr. found that one of Audrey's eyes is not reflecting red light like its supposed. We see a pediatric opthmalogist in a week and half. At this point I just trying not to think about it since I can't do anything about it until the doctor sees her. Supposedly its pretty rare - 1 in 20,000 - so you gotta think that her chances of having it are pretty slim, right?! To add to it, apparently since she isn't talking enough either, now we have to watch her and make sure that she is hearing correctly. If she doesn't develop some outporing of speech in the next three months then she's referring us to have a hearing test. And she's had 4 ear infections already at one - so she gets one more and they are going to want to put in tubes. Which is exactly what we didn't want to do to Zoey, but now at almost 4 she seems to have some hearing/speech issues and fluid in the ears and is still a candidate for tubes. Oh, I should mention that Audrey is cutting FIVE teeth at the same time. UGH. And even though she takes prevacid, her acid reflux just yesterday decided to start acting up again, so now when I lay her flat, she starts coughing/puking again. Which is for naptime and bedtime - Very convenient.

This parenthood thing is really hard. There's so many things that you can freak out about but really just can't. And it only gets worse as they get older...

Photo of Audrey on her birthday

Here is a photo of Audrey on her birthday. Since we were stuck in Atlanta for the night, we bought the girls a fried ice cream to share and mommy and daddy had a pina colada to share. Audrey covered herself and that table in ice cream - it was quite the sticky situation!!

Here is another photo of Audrey, Grandpa and Dad on 4th of July - look at that chubby baby!!

Our newest Daydream

I never thought I would say this, but here is a haunted schoolhouse on 6.2 acres out west - we saw it on our last trip. We want to buy it! It is on a hillside bluff overlooking the waters of a beautiful Cove where I've been told that some of the best mussels are from. We would get something like 240 degree waterviews and could build an awesome house. BUT, here's the catch, it involves uprooting the whole family from FL. Oh, and it costs a whole lot of money!!! So if you'd like to donate to Operation Schoolhouse Rocks.....

Miss Susie has an Audrey on her lap!!

On our trip back to FL we got delayed in Atlanta for the night. Jamie and Susie came to visit us and get some BBQ at a restaurant near our hotel. Susie humored me well by holding Audrey for a minute. It's always nice to get the squirming child out of my lap!! But obviously she gave Susie a run for her money too!!

Zoey, isn't she just beautiful....

This is a picture of Zoey as the flowergirl at Nana's wedding. She just looks so grownup and so beautiful to me. She did SUCH a good job in the wedding. She walked all by herself in front of 30 or so people. She pulled petals out of her basket and then 1o feet in front of the gazebo - she ran straight into my legs and buried her face in tears!!! SOOO much pressure for such a little girl!!!

Our trip out West

Here are some photos from our recent trip out west for Nana's wedding. We really enjoyed getting out of the heat only to find ourselves in a heatwave!! Audrey got 3 teeth during the trip but overall did pretty well for being out of her element.

Happy 4th and Audrey turns ONE

Thought I would try this blogging thing as a means to keep the family up to date on the girls.
